Studio 17

Juliet Widdows - Ceramicist

Juliet’s work has always been an exploration of colour, glaze, form; mainly thrown on the wheel. She has been further exploring textural surfaces using coloured slips, and also pit firing to create new works. She has developed her glazed surfaces to complement each form. She has a deep connection with the process of creating with clay.

Juliet uses her wheel to create forms. She is active in teaching, sharing and providing firing services from her studio. She is currently working on a series of work that will become a Gallery presentation next year. Her studio space is welcoming and eclectic and she is happy to answer any questions, technical or otherwise.

From the Artist

My work is inspired by the natural world: patterns on the sand, the twisting growth of tendrils and decorative seed pods. I strive to create work that resonates with the viewer, enticing them to touch, hold and use them everyday. I sometimes incorporate natural objects, copper wire or goldleaf to enhance some pieces.
